The Bitch: What, No Scantily Clad Pool Boys?

April 16, 2008 : Posted by: admin : Category: Politics And Government : Comments (0) : Add Comment

Well Darlings,

If you live in the UK, did the Earth move for you? The second biggest quake in UK recorded history has certainly been a talking point, hasn’t it? And perhaps never more so than for all the appreciative young ladies in the backs of cars in those quaking early hours who believed they had found the virile young man of their dreams, not forgetting all the wives at home who at the same time were questioning just where their husbands had learned to do something like that!

But all this was only a taster. The real Earth-moving experiences may yet be to come as the whole premise of global warming is under threat again. Despite all the spin, it seems the scientific world is still not in any overall agreement as to just how much man is actually responsible for influencing the climate - if at all. In fact at the moment many scientists and “experts” are racing to distance themselves from being associated with the whole idea of global warming.

Recent data has shown there have been record snowfalls worldwide - some in places, like Baghdad and parts of central Asia, for the first time in recorded history; North America has had the most snow cover for 50 years; China has suffered the lowest temperatures in over a century; both icecaps have thickened, with Arctic sea ice forming up to 8” thicker than usual; and all four of the Earth’s major temperature tracking services confirm that the planet has cooled by as much as .75°C. Apparently we have experienced the single fastest temperature change ever recorded, either up or down. Dropping from between 0.65C and 0.75C, graphically it is enough to wipe out most of the warming recorded over the past 100 years.

Professor Sorokhtin, of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, dismisses man-made climate change as “a drop in the bucket”, and advises people to stock up on warm clothing. He is not alone in believing solar activity and the planet’s orbit (it changes from circular to elliptical every so often, so making us more or less prone to the sun’s behaviour) is the major influence on our climate. There are many, including Kenneth Tapping of Canada’s National Research Council, who hold this belief, but it has not been politically expedient to have them heard lately - it might put people off paying those green taxes.

Followers of the solar theory are convinced we could be in for a long period of severely cold weather if the sun’s activity does not pick up soon. The last time it was this inactive we suffered the Little Ice Age, and that lasted for about five centuries, ending in 1850. During that time there were food shortages as crops failed regularly because of severe frosts and drought. Rivers and harbours froze solid, causing trade to cease, and both plague and war became commonplace. It has to be said the evidence for a period of rapid cooling is flimsy, but the scientists argue it is no more flimsy than the evidence used for global warming.

If we study the temperature trend from 1998 to today (over the time we have heard so much about global warming) you may be surprised to learn it is distinctly downward, but taken from 1900 to today there is a noticeable upward trend. However if one goes back further still, say to 500 AD (and that is a mere blink in the age of the planet), the overall trend is unmistakeably seen as cooling again. Earth is much cooler today than it was then.

Irrespective of any involvement man might have, whether or not global warming is a fact and really occurring at any time all depends on where you wish to place your viewpoint. The Earth has no “normal” temperature or climate, it is constantly changing so it will always be seen to be heading off in one direction or another - and there will be nothing we can do to alter that - however if one had to pick a “norm”, a mean average temperature, it would certainly be hotter than today. Apparently the ice caps have receded before, completely disappearing many times, temperatures have far exceeded anything wildly predicted by the alarmists today, and even that Gulf Stream has stopped and restarted without the end of the world occurring.

Perhaps man has greatly over-estimated his importance and his ability to significantly influence the destiny of our planet. Deforestation, on the scale it is being carried out today, is perhaps the most relevant damage we are capable of doing - and on that there is a lot of agreement. To remove our lungs (the rainforests) which are critical to our survival in order to grow crops for bio-fuel in some mad hope it will benefit the planet is stupidity in the extreme. Stopping this one thing from happening is likely to be of more benefit to our world than everything else we could do all put together.

Of course, all these recent signs pointing to global warming possibly being nothing more than natural climatic variations that could change at any time into a long cold period is not good news for those of us looking forward to a Mediterranean-style climate in Blackpool. I guess the dreams of scantily clad pool boys serving vodka and cokes to us whilst we soaked up the rays on our lilos might have to remain just that - dreams. Never mind, we are getting quite good at dreaming in Blackpool. We are used to things not coming to fruition here - like the Mega-Casino as good as promised to us, then Storm City, and later the regeneration money as an alternative solution promised by the government. So far this has turned out to be little more than what we already had earmarked, maintenance money, and nothing extra for what we really need - except, that is, for a surplus of useless words again. Ones that have been repeated parrot-fashion by politicians for too many years.

The latest on the plight here is: “Let’s talk,” says the PM, appearing as headlines in our local newspaper. But there has been more than enough talking - so much talking that we fear for our donkeys’ hind legs! It is time for the government to sit down and listen for a change - and then do something more than talk.

Desperate for regeneration funds in order to survive as a holiday resort, we are sickened to have to watch the arguments over the moral rights of MPs allowances after learning that Alan and Ann Keen, both of them Labour MPs, have been claiming a massive £38,515 a year for a second home - far more money than many people here earn - although their constituencies are only a mere nine miles away from the Commons. And they are not alone - it seems that twenty-four MPs with seats in Greater London have claimed an amount totalling almost £400,000 for second homes last year, all of it public money.

We should not forget that (disregarding our EuroMPs) there are nearly 650 MPs eligible for allowances, so the total cost is a vast amount of money. As many reading this will undoubtedly have to travel considerably greater distances than nine miles daily for their employment, and with no allowances whatsoever, I suggest that money could easily be put to much better use. Give it to Blackpool - £88 million would solve quite a few problems here - and then purpose-build an accommodation block close enough to the Commons for all those MPs who have to stay over. By electing these people we employ them to represent us, and for that task they are well paid. We do not elect them to live like royalty, nor to buy second homes at our expense.

The £400 a month an MP is allowed for food, with no receipts needed, is absolutely ridiculous too - would these politicians not be eating if they were at home? That allowance alone is £16 more than sick and disabled people receive to run a home on. Whilst the needy are expected to stay alive and pay all their bills on £96 per week, our MPs are skinning us for £88 million in allowances, making the average cost to the taxpayer of an MP now little short of £200,000. Value for money? Don’t make me spit - just look at the state of the country!

Likewise: how can the government justify spending more than £50,000 of taxpayers’ money on a series of banquets simply in order to celebrate the formation of the Equality and Human Rights Commission? Equality and Human Rights? For whom - those already on a £400 food allowance? Where was my share of the banquets?

And whilst I am on a run of complaining: why should our MPs be allowed to pay for the new bin tax using taxpayers’ money - our money again! - when families who cannot afford to pay it will have to face the bailiff calling on them, or perhaps even go to gaol? Equality and Human Rights? Yes, I think I still remember such things - but which drawer marked “Nostalgia” did we put them in?

It will be a great pity if global warming turns out to be a fallacy. We could do with those scantily clad pool boys to take our minds off all the atrociousness of government!

The Bloody Nose Of Your Labrador Retriever

April 16, 2008 : Posted by: admin : Category: Pets And Animals : Comments (0) : Add Comment

It is alarming as well as messy in the home when you see blood dripping from the nostrils of your Labrador Retriever. Immediate attention should be given to address this problem but you should identify first the causes. Nose bleeding in Labrador Retriever is caused by various reasons, some are merely caused by your pet’s environment such as pollution from smoking, poor air quality or excessive exposure to too much heat. The most common cause is an infection or something is lodged in your dog’s nose. However, not all causes are as mild as stated earlier. Many cases of canine nose bleeding are signs of another disorder, most are very serious diseases. Breeds like Labrador Retriever and Basset Hounds are at increased risk of canine nose tumor.

Before you actually see blood dripping from your dog’s nostril, there are already signs associated with canine nose bleeding. Your dog will initially sneeze or you will discover discharge from the nose. Sometimes the discharge may contain blood. Your dog may also show difficulty breathing indicating that there is a foreign object lodged in the nasal passage. He will even try to rub his muzzle against a hard surface. If blood is coming from only one nostril or if there is discharge, the presence of diseases such as distemper, bacterial rhinitis, infected sinuses, kennel cough and canine nose tumor exist.

The inside of a dog’s nose is sensitive and is easily damaged. If you are sure that there is something lodged in your dog’s nostril, you should not try to remove it. The object may be too far back and must be sedated or anesthetized in order to remove it.

Keeping your pet calm as is important to control bleeding. Excitement or nervousness will increase blood pressure and will eventually increase the bleeding. You should keep yourself calm too. Dogs are often affected with their owner’s emotions. If you show you are nervous, he will get nervous too. Try to be calm and apply an ice pack into the bridge of your dog’s nose. Small blood vessels will constrict to cold thus reduce bleeding.

If the stated tips are ineffective in controlling the bleeding and difficulty breathing is present, visit your vet immediately for specific tests to diagnose the cause of the problem.

A Labrador Retriever is an ideal working dog. Though not scent dogs, they still use their sense of smell to detect drugs, bombs and the likes. They are used by police, rescue teams and other official bodies. This simply means that, every part of a Labrador Retriever is important in performing work expected of him.

Summer Camp Tells Kids How To Keep Balance In Their Lives

April 16, 2008 : Posted by: admin : Category: Parenting : Comments (0) : Add Comment

At SuperCamp, the learning and life skills summer camps for students in grades 4 through 12, kids learn about the 8 Keys of Excellence. SuperCamp co-founder, Bobbi DePorter, has lived the 8 Keys for more than 25 years. They are principles of behavior that inspire people to try great things—and succeed. These Keys have the power to constantly propel you forward and to help bring purpose, meaning and fulfillment to your life and your work.

The first key is balance – living a fulfilled life by aligning your mind, body and spirit. You create balance in your life by apportioning your time according to your highest priorities.

What are the things that are most important to you? Family, friends, health, a talent you have, a cause you care about? Spending time on the things that are important to you brings a sense of balance. Staying in balance is an ongoing process that is affected by the choices you make every day. It brings a feeling of quiet peace you might not even notice.

Balance is a subtle, quiet Key

Balance is subtle. You may not always recognize it when it’s there, but you’ll feel its absence. Imbalance clanks loudly, like an out-of-tune piano. When you’re out of balance, you know it.

Keeping your balance is about bringing your life into alignment, recognizing when some part of your life doesn’t reflect your priorities, and rearranging your life in a way that creates an ongoing sense of peace and fulfillment. When you’re able to make time for what matters in your life, your life will be in balance, you will feel fulfilled, and you won’t be plagued with a nagging sensation that some aspect of life is passing you by.

When she was in the process of developing the 8 Keys, Bobbi first tried to bring balance to her life by devoting equal time and energy to all the important aspects of her life. She made a pie chart and devoted equal slices to work, home, family, friends, charitable organizations, and so forth, and then set about trying to apportion her time to match the chart.

No matter how hard she tried to do strike a balance in her life that way, no matter how close she got to that goal, something still felt out of whack. Eventually, she came to realize that it wasn’t a matter of rigidly devoting equal time to everything that mattered to her, but of prioritizing and then finding the allotment of time and energy that created the greatest sense of fulfillment. That’s balance.

How to know when you’re out of balance

You may not recognize that you’re out of balance unless you take the time to step back and look at your life from a different perspective. And remember that the times we’re most in need of a new perspective are often the times when it’s most difficult to take that break.

1. Take a time-out—especially when you think you can least afford it

Sometimes when you’re going too fast in one or more areas of your life, you just have to call a time-out, just like a basketball coach whose team seems out of sync. Take your time out to do something fun and relaxing and make sure it’s a long enough break that it gives you a chance to evaluate how you’re spending your time and if aspects of your life might be out of balance.

Balance has little to do with the amount of time you spend in any area of your life. When you’re focused and excited about something, you can spend mega hours at it and feel fulfilled and balanced. So, don’t worry about whether you’re spending too much time at something. The secret to balance lies not in an allotment of time but in an awareness of your priorities.

2. Check your priorities daily

When you’re driving a car, you’re making constant small corrections. You’re steering, adjusting the gas, and braking almost automatically, but you are paying attention and constantly making corrections to accommodate changing situations along your route. Keeping your life in balance requires the same kind of ongoing correction process. Balance is about choices. When you’re keeping yourself in balance you’re making a thousand internal corrections each day. You’re constantly asking yourself, What do I value? What’s really important? Does this activity really need to be done now?

No matter how good you become at it, you won’t be in balance every moment of every day. Tune in to the signals your mind, spirit, and body send that warn you when you’re slipping out of balance. Compensate sooner rather than later. The quicker you realign yourself, the smaller the “wobble” you’ll have to correct.

The balance that comes from fulfillment acts as a lens. It clears the view to your dream. Balance and the big picture are self-reinforcing energies. Stay balanced, and you’ll be able to keep the big picture in sight—stay focused on the big picture, and you’ll see clearly the choices that will keep your balance.

Fulfillment creates balance—and balance creates fulfillment. Make choices that are consistent with what makes you feel fulfilled.

Use this Balance affirmation often: I give to the things that are important to me the amount of time that creates the greatest sense of fulfillment.

“The antidote to exhaustion is wholeheartedness. It’s the things you do

half-heartedly that really wear you out.” —David Whyte

How to Raise the Money to Start Your Internet Business in 5 Easy Steps

April 16, 2008 : Posted by: admin : Category: Online Business : Comments (0) : Add Comment

So, you have discovered that perfect home-based business that is going to have prospects banging down the door to sign up…but you don’t have the money to invest. The investment requirement may be $1500, it may be $1000, it may be $100.

The point is that you have NO money to spare, if you want to keep a roof over your head and food on the table. This describes most, in today’s economy, but you are special because you are wise enough to realize that if you just keep doing what you are doing now, you are just going to keep getting poorer.

Now mind you, that doesn’t mean you can walk into your boss’s office, drop off your resignation letter, and tell him to pound sand just yet…that comes later. But, you know that while your day job will make you a living, your online business will make you a fortune. Right?

So the challenge is to raise the money to start your business as soon as possible. The methods I am about to teach you will do just that, PLUS generate recurring monthly savings that will become your advertising budget.

Step 1: Where is My Money Going Now?

The simplest and best way of making money is to reduce your costs. But you may already only be buying what you need! So, we are going to reduce our costs WITHOUT sacrificing the goods/services that we need. But first, what ARE our costs?

Exercise: Take out last month’s bank statement and credit card bills. Itemize each of your major costs. Your list may look something like this:

* Mortgage on house or cost of renting
* Car payments
* Health Insurance
* Car Insurance
* Homeowners Insurance
* Groceries
* Fast food/lunches out at work
* Telephone/Internet/Cable
* Gas

These are just a few. It can be frightening to see just how much money you are spending to keep a roof over your head!

So now that we know WHERE our money is going, let’s take action to divert more of it away from other people’s pockets and into our own. We will do that via…

Step 2: Competitive Bidding–Who wants my business?

It is simply astonishing how almost every company utilizes competitive bidding, and yet how few households do! For every item we listed up there, there are dozens, hundreds, or thousands of different companies who would love to have you as their customer!

Let’s make them compete against each other, shall we?

Exercise: Find your policies for Health, Auto and Home Insurance. Find exactly what your coverages are, and your premiums. THEN, go online to a competitive bidding website, fill out your information, and request quotes from dozens of bidders! I personally use LowerMyBills and E-Health Insurance (links are provided in the resource box below). Representatives from these companies will be scrambling all over each other to provide you with their most competitive quotes, especially if you…

Tip: TELL THEM that other companies are bidding for your business! No one wants the competition to get a customer, so they will cut their margins as much as they can!
Tip: Create URGENCY by telling them that you are only accepting bids until X date, at which point you will choose the most inexpensive offer that meets your needs!

You will be astonished at how much this will reduce your monthly costs. This is a service that I perform for clients, in exchange for a % of whatever I save them, and believe me that is a pretty penny. But you don’t need me to do it for you, you can do this yourself!

Savings: (will obviously vary from person to person, this is what I tend to see on average)
Savings on health insurance: $200 per month
Savings on car insurance: $100 per month
Savings on home insurance: $75 per month
First-month savings on insurance: $375
Ongoing monthly savings: $375/month

Wow! That’s a nice chunk of change right there towards your business. And your actual results may be much higher or much lower, but chances are that right now, unless you bid out your insurance annually, your provider is probably treating you like a 200-pound 4th-grader taking your lunch money.

Step 3: I Can Pay Less, to Save MORE?!?

Have you been reading the news about the economy? In an effort to turn around the recession, the FED has been slashing through interest rates with speed and vigor usually seen only in Japanese Samurai movies.

Take out that mortgage bill, and see what rate you are paying. 7%? 6%?

We’ll use an average mortgage amount of $200,000, and assume your current interest rate is 7% at a 30 year fixed loan. Ergo, your payment is $1,330.60 per month.

Do you have any idea JUST HOW MUCH money you can save by refinancing now at a lower rate?

With the Fed rate cuts, loans at 5% are easily available. Just that 2% drop in interest will lower your payment on the SAME LOAN to $1,073.64…saving you $237 per month!!
Let’s add that in…
1st-Month Savings on Refinancing at lower rate: $237
Ongoing monthly savings: $237/month

And you can roll in your closing costs to the loan, so you don’t pay anything up front, and STILL be saving this much (a few thousand over a 30-year loan just knocks off about $20 per month from your savings, which is already factored in above).

Step 4: Waste Not, Want Not

Now we are going to look at such a simple, obvious, and EASY way to save money, that never even occurs to most people.

What are you doing for lunch at work? Are you getting fast food, because it’s easy and convenient? If so, you are spending about $6-$8 per meal!

Or do you eat out a restaurant? That gets REALLY expensive, anywhere from $10-$20 per meal or more! For this example, we will say that you are like most of working America and you eat lunch at a fast food place, spending $7 per meal.

So not only are you clogging your arteries and getting poor nutrition, but you are spending $210 per month just on lunch!!

Start bringing your lunch to work with you. Make yourself a sandwich, or whatever you please. The groceries will add up to $1-$2 per meal, if that. Let’s say $2 per meal.

1st-Month Savings on Brown-bagging it for lunch: $150!!
Ongoing monthly savings: $150/month
Benefit to your health: Priceless!

And how badly do you REALLY need that $3 Mochachino from Starbucks every morning on the way to work? If you cut that out of your budget, there’s another $90 per month you save!

BUT I LIKE MY FANCY STARBUCKS DRINKS AND DON’T WANT TO GIVE THEM UP!!

Ok, fiiiine! Give it up for just the first month then. If you are going to be able to make $1000’s of dollars per month by starting your internet business, wouldn’t you be willing to make that small sacrifice?

In the words of Jim Rohn, “OF COOOURSE!!”

Step 5: Take Advantage of the Economic Stimulus

By now you’ve probably gotten the letter from the IRS about the Economic Stimulus Plan…you are going to be receiving a check for somewhere between $300 and $1200 in May 2008!

If you spend it on bills, it’s gone, and the bills will be back…with friends. That’s why you want to start your internet business in the first place, right? So that you will have gigantic loads of income streaming in again and again from your marketing efforts?

For this example, let’s assume you are married, below a certain income level, and have 1 child. Your tax rebate will be $900 (or possibly $1200, but let’s be conservative).

Ok, let’s recap. So far, we’ve managed to raise:

Savings on health insurance: $200 per month
Savings on car insurance: $100 per month
Savings on home insurance: $75 per month
Savings on Refinancing at lower rate: $237 per month
Savings on small luxuries like Starbucks: $90 month 1
Unexpected Tax Rebate Coming in May: $900 month 1!
Savings from not eating out for lunch: $150 per month
Total Savings for First Month: $1752
Ongoing Savings per Month: $762 per month

WOW! We are there!! You have raised $1,752 to start your business, which is more than most cost! Not only that, but you will be saving almost $800 per month…let’s take $400 of that and invest it our business as our Advertising Budget, and we will have LOTS of prospects coming to our site…and from there, it is just a matter of the Law of Averages to generate out your sales.

My Passport to Wealth business only costs $997 to get started, and an advertising budget of $350 per month gets you a professional Marketing Manager who does all your marketing for you, AND a personal sales assistant who calls all your prospects! I have included a link in the resource box to learn more about this hands-free automated internet business.

So that would leave an extra $752 in month 1, even above and beyond the cost of investing in your business…AND you would have ongoing savings of $412 per month.

Do you think you could find a use for this extra money that you raised?

“OF COOOURSE!!”

Feel free to contact me if you need any help with any of these 5 Simple Steps to Raise the Money to Start Your Internet Business. I believe strongly that giving back to others is the way to wealth.
